Kaliurang (UII News) – The 2018 International Congress of Diabetes and Metabolism (ICDM2018) is an official scientific meeting or conference held at the Grand Hilton Hotel, Seoul, South Korea from 11 to 13 October 2018 which aims to explore and further discuss diabetes, both in terms of associated risk factors, and new treatments. in overcoming diabetes, as well as in commemoration of the 50th anniversary Korean Diabetes Association (KDA).

This was conveyed by Alissa Anna Safira, a 2017 student of the Medical Education Study Program (PSPD) at the Indonesian Islamic University (FK UII) Faculty of Medicine after becoming a The 2018 International Congress of Diabetes and Metabolism (ICDM 2018).

According to Alissa, this activity was a great opportunity for her as a medical student at UII Faculty of Medicine to present the results of my research entitled The Effect of Probiotic Juice From Dates Palm and Kefir Grain on Body Mass Index of Hyperlipidemic Rat(Rattus norvegicus) in Exhibition posters.

"What I got from this conference were valuable experiences and new ideas for further research," said Alissa.

It was further said that this conference was successfully attended by 1400 delegates from 35 countries consisting of students to professor level who attended the symposium, oral presentations and exhibition posters.

This conference is indeed important to do, considering that Diabetes Mellitus will be ranked 7th as the main cause of death in 2030 according to WHO (World Health Organization).

"About 1,3 million people die from diabetes and 4% die before the age of 70 years, especially Indonesia, it is estimated that in 2030 there will be 21,3 million people with diabetes," said the 2017 FK UII student.

This delegation made a wish for Alissa, who said at the end of her story that of course it is my duty as a future health worker candidate to take part in the development of medical science in connection with a disease that continues to grow, as evidenced by attending this conference.
