Faculty of Medicine UII Won the National First Winner of Educational Video in Jakarta

JAKARTA (Ath-Thib) – Faculty of Medicine’s students of Universitas Islam Indonesia (FM UII) kept engraving the scientific achievements on the national level. On the event of Muhammadiyah Jakarta Scientific Competition (MAJESTY) 2018 which took place on July 26 – 28, 2018 at the Faculty of Medicine and Health, Muhammadiyah University of Jakarta (FMH UMJ), the FM UII delegation consisting of Naufal Abdurrahman, Alfian Novanda Yosanti and Dodi Faras Ilmiawan Sutomo succeeded in winning the 1st place in Educational Video Competition.

MAJESTY 2018 is a scientific event held for students of health and medicine groups throughout Indonesia. The activity was organized by Muhammadiyah Medical Researcher Community (M2RC) FKK UMJ. This year, MAJESTY presented the theme “Expanding the Possibilities of Women’s Health Care” and this event was attended by 101 participants divided into 37 finalist teams from 21 universities throughout Indonesia. MAJESTY 2018 organized five branches of competition, namely: Scientific Writing, Scientific Poster, Public Poster, Scientific Essay and Educational Video.

The finalists competing in Jakarta were the participants who had passed the first stage of the selection, where only five to seven teams were selected as finalists for each competition branch. The participants presented their work in front of the jury and also answered the questions given to them. The competition among the finalists was very tight because they came from various well-known FMs in Indonesia, such as University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University, and many more.

On this occasion, the FM UII team created an educational video about early detection of cervical cancer. This was motivated by the fact that the number of cases and deaths from cervical cancer in the world and Indonesia was increasing. About that, it is needed an educational media which is interesting, educational, and it can influence the community, especially Indonesian women, to care about the dangers of cervical cancer.

“Basically, through this video, we want to educate Indonesian women about the dangers of cervical cancer and describe how it is detected. We also invite the women to do early detection of cervical cancer with Pap Smear or IVA,” explained Dodi, a member of Educational Video Team. (dsh/tri)

   TAIWAN (Ath-Thib) – Five students of batch 2015 Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia (FM UII), namely: Rafik Prabowo, Farida Rahmatika, Asyam Syafiq Hasbullah, Afief Mulyawijaya, Finandanisa Amani had the opportunity to participate in the “Summer Program2018: Healthy Aging and Anti -Aging” at the College of Medical and Health Science Asia University, Taiwan for 2 weeks from 23 July to 3 August 2018.

Asia University, located in Wufeng District, Taichung, Taiwan, is one of the most prestigious higher education institutions in Taiwan. Asia University won many achievements in the field of research and is known to have excellence in the education process. The university is also one of the educational destinations that many foreign students are attracted to. One of the advantages is that there is a modern dormitory facility for students from abroad. The College of Medical and Health Sciences itself was established in 2005 with its initial name as the College of Health.

“During this summer program, we attended various learning activities such as lectures, lab work, and discussion and exchanging ideas and thoughts from the great experts. This event was also attended by students from other countries in the world and some of our neighboring countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, India with different schedules,” explained Rafik Prabowo, one of the students participating in the summer program.

Totally, there are 36 hours of lessons to be taken during this summer program, including: Introduction to Campus and Courses, Lifestyle in Aging, Anti-Aging Diet, Aging Gene and Molecular Biology, Psychology of Aging, Geriatrics Care (Geriatric Rehabilitation, Long Term Care), Age-Related Vision Loss and Prevention, Age-Related Hearing Loss and Prevention, Health Promotion Activities for Successful Aging, Animal Companionship for the Elderly, and Summary.

The existence of Asia University Summer Program 2018 truly made the campus as a home for international students from all over the world and provided a challenging academic experience with a balanced menu of educational and social activities so that participants will have a truly transformative learning experience. FM UII Got the National First Place of Educational Video Competition in Makassar

   MAKASSAR (Ath-Thib) – The Faculty of Medicine of Universitas Islam Indonesia (FM UII) once again engraved an achievement on the national level. This time, the FM UII delegation consisting of Alif Mulyana, Naufal Abdurrahman, and Alfian Novanda Yosanto, won the 1st place in the Hasanuddin Scientific Fair (HSF) 2018 Educational Video Competition which was held on March 23-25 ​​2018 at Faculty of Medicine Hasanuddin University (FM UNHAS), Makassar, South Sulawesi.

HSF 2018 is the biggest annual scientific event in the eastern Indonesia organized by the Medical Youth Research Club FM UNHAS. There were three branches of scientific competition competed on this national level, namely: Educational Video, Scientific Essay, and Public Poster. In addition, there were also two other branches of scientific competition competed on the international level, including: Literature Review and Research Paper Congress. To be a finalist and compete in Makassar, all participants must pass the first stage selection which is carried out strictly by the committee. Of the hundreds of works that submitted from all over Indonesia, only ten finalists were chosen for each branch.

This year, the presented theme by HSF is: “Ophthalmology: Increase Awareness and Treatment of Ophthalmology Diseases through a Holistic Approach of Healthcare”. The FM UII delegation successfully passed the finalists for the Literature Review, Research Paper Congress, and Educational Video section. Assessment was done by oral presentation in front of the jury. Competition in the final stage is very tense with the competitors coming from various best universities in Indonesia, such as Gadjah Mada University, Sebelas Maret University, Sriwijaya University, Udayana University, and UNHAS as the host.

The FM UII delegation presented a work entitled “Overcoming Cataracts, Realizing the Rights Equality to See Optimally”. According to Alfian, one of the FM UII team members of Educational Video, the conception of the work was motivated by public’s lack of understanding about cataracts, which led to a high number of cataracts incidence in Indonesia.

“The purpose of making this video is to provide an understanding to the Indonesian people about cataracts, so that people are aware of and take preventive action to reduce the cataracts incidence in Indonesia,” Alfian explained. (dsh/Tri)
