FK UII Students Win National English Debate Competition

YOGYAKARTA (fk.uii.ac.id) - Salsabila Zannuba Kurniawan, Faculty of Medicine student Universitas Islam Indonesia (FK UII) class of 2019 succeeded in making the alma mater proud of the national level scientific debate competition arena by winning the title of Novice Runner Up Jogja Debating Forum (JDF) Open 2021 (29-30 May) and Co-4th Best Speaker Student English Activity Debating Championship (SEADC) 2021 Yogyakarta Muhammadiyah University (June 17-19) which was held regularly online.

Salsabila achieved this achievement after competing with 36 teams in the JDF Open and 16 teams in SEADC from various regions and universities in Indonesia. Many of the debate topics raised did not intersect with medical science, such as "Youth in Actions Against Global Issues" at SEADC whichtrigger participants to criticize various problems in Indonesia, whether related to political, economic, humanitarian, or equality issues.

In order to prepare herself for these various competitions, Salsabila trains her skills and improves her knowledge by participating regularly regular practice, toUpdate social issues, and try a variety stance in debate as often as possible.

"In my opinion, nowadays the demands of being a doctor are not only as a provider of health workers. Now a doctor must also be able to understand the problems that occur around him which will ultimately affect health conditions. Therefore, doctors can also understand the social problems that exist around them to be able to advocate for community rights as a way to solve problems," explained Salsabila regarding her reasons for studying debate science.

"I personally am very interested in becoming a doctor in a humanitarian crisis area, therefore I want to practice these critical thinking and advocacy skills," he concluded. (etc)
