FK UII Contributes to Reducing Sickness, Disability, and Death Rates in Children

Submission of SWIM 2022 seminar materials

Sleman (4/12)  Immunization is one of the programs of the government of the Republic of Indonesia (RI) which has the goal of reducing illness, disability, and death in infants due to diseases that can be prevented by immunization. Immunizations are given to the community through medical personnel, but quite complex problems arise starting from the availability of places for clinics or medical personnel practice and the uneven resources of medical personnel.

General practitioners/health workers as the frontline in primary care in Indonesia are required to be able to provide immunizations, thus there is a need to increase the knowledge and skills of doctors/health workers in administering immunization vaccines to the public.

Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia (FK UII) was moved to actively contribute to overcoming this phenomenon by holding the 2022 Immunization Symposium and Workshop (SWIM) with the theme "Immunization Protects Us All” which will be held on 3-4 December 2022 hybrid (offline and online) on the first day and continued offline on the second day, at the Grand Keisha Hotel, Yogyakarta.

The immunization seminar and workshop were attended by general practitioners, young doctors and medical staff, with a total of 64 participants attending this activity.

dr. Erlina Marfianti, M.Sc, Sp.PD giving a speech

Deputy Dean for Human Resources, FK UII, dr. Erlina Marfianti, M.Sc, Sp.PD, in her remarks said that SWIM is one of the annual agendas at FK UII organized by the Department of Pediatrics.

"This activity is the responsibility of FK UII to participate in maintaining health, especially children's health. Immunization, knowledge is always developing and there are problems that exist in society, "said dr. Erlina in her speech.

Erlina added that during a pandemic many were afraid to go to a health vehicle to carry out immunizations or also because they thought that this immunization was a conspiracy and maybe some had beliefs or beliefs that contradicted their religion. "In this activity, the doctors and the participants were provided with material not in the context of immunization but also provided with immunization material from an Islamic perspective. Then on the second day there will be an immunization workshop so we hope that later we can benefit from the material provided, "concluded dr. Erlina ended her speech.
