Background: Falling is one of the events that is often experienced by an elderly person. Falls are associated with increased morbidity and mortality as well as decreased function and independence. Falls usually occur due to a series of several risk factors, most of which can be corrected, one of which is the intrinsic risk factor.
Objective. The purpose of this study was to determine the proportions and risk factors for falls in the elderly at Tresna Wredha Abiyoso Pakem Social Institution, Sleman, Yogyakarta.

Research methods: The research conducted was a descriptive-analytic study with a cross-sectional study design (cross-sectional) on the elderly at Tresna Wredha Abiyoso Pakem Social Institution, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Elderly who met the inclusion criteria were examined for risk factors for falls. Data analysis used a descriptive method and statistical Chi-Square Test to determine the risk factors that influence the incidence of falls in the elderly.

Results: There were 46 elderly who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria, with a proportion of 24 people (52,2%) falling. The risk factor for falls is age, most commonly occurring in the 75-90 years group, namely 11 people (55%). Gender, the most common in the group of elderly men as many as 10 people (58,8%).
