Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI) has issued a fatwa regarding the prohibition for Muslims to hold Friday prayers in congregation in certain areas during the pandemic as outlined in the MUI Fatwa Number 14 of 2020 concerning Organizing Worship in a Situation of a Covid-19 Outbreak.[1] This fatwa spontaneously raises pros and cons in society because normatively in Islam Friday prayers are obligatory, even leaving 3 Friday prayers can be punished with kufr. In people's understanding, leaving Friday prayers is not solely a matter of worldly affairs but also risks the fate of the hereafter. Moreover, leaving Friday prayers 3 times can become kufr if done intentionally or without an excuse. Of course, many people are reluctant to take risks by leaving Friday prayers, even though the MUI has issued a fatwa that in uncontrolled conditions, Friday prayers may be replaced with Friday prayers. midday. But on the other hand, when viewed from health science, the threat of the danger of spreading a virus that can cause death can only be overcome by breaking the chain of transmission. Even the World Health Organization WHO has confirmed the massive spread of the Covid 19 virus, so naturally on March 11 2020 WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghabyesus needed to immediately announce the pandemic status in all countries. Covid 19 is a very fast transmission process and can be transmitted from person to person through the media of objects and the environment around people who have a history of contracting Covid 19.[2] Knowledge about the dangers of Covid 19 must be known by all Indonesian people. Coronavirus can cause infections of the respiratory tract that are generally mild, such as a cold. However, it is different from Covid 19, this virus can cause death even though the initial symptoms are like ordinary influenza.[3]

In several hadiths it is described that the Prophet Muhammad and his companions also did this. As what was conveyed by the Messenger of Allah, telling us Hafs bin Umar, telling us Syu'bah, he said he had informed me about Habib bin Abi Thabit, he said I heard Ibrahim bin Sa'ad say I heard Usamah bin Usamah bin Zaid preach Sa'ad from the Prophet saw, he actually said: “If you hear of an epidemic in an area, then don't enter it. But if there is an epidemic where you are, then do not leave that place.” (HR. Bukhari). If viewed from health science in dealing with the threat of this massive virus, it can be done by breaking the chain of transmission. And also in another narration it is said, "Actually, Umar was on his way to Sham, when he arrived at a region called Sargh. At that time Umar received news of an epidemic in the Sham region. Abdurrahman bin Auf then told Umar that the Prophet Muhammad had said, “If you hear of an epidemic in an area, then don't enter it. But if there is an epidemic where you are, then do not leave that place.” (Narrated by al-Bukhari). Even in rules fiqhiyyah formulated by the scholars explained that "Removing harm takes precedence over taking advantage." So it can be concluded that the public's lack of understanding of religious knowledge and lack of knowledge about the dangers of Covid 19 is what causes pros and cons in addressing the MUI Fatwa. These pros and cons can vaguely be a strong signal that Indonesian people are still lacking in literacy in religion and health. This is certainly our shared responsibility to provide education to the community, especially our families. If this personal responsibility can be carried out properly, it will eventually extend to neighbors and all levels of society to be able to carry out religious teachings properly and avoid the dangers of Covid 19.
