Kaliurang (UII News) – 5th The 2017 Seoul International Congress of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SICEM) is a prestigious event for all world researchers, both professors, doctors, doctors, and students who have research interests in the field of endocrine and metabolism.

This was conveyed by Rafik Prabowo, a 2015 FK UII student while attending SICEM. SICEM is an annual activity held by the Korean Endocrine Society (KES) held at the Wallkerhil Seoul Hotel, Seoul, Korea on Thursday-Sunday 30 Rajab – 03 Sha'ban 1438 H / 27 – 30 April 2017.

Rafik said that Universitas Islam Indonesia dispatched 5 students from the Faculty of Medicine who were divided into 5 teams namely Rafik Prabowo (FK '15) “The Effect of Quail Egg Yolks on Body Mass Index Male Wistar Strain Rat (Rattus norvegicus)”, Roby Cahyono (FK '13) “Methanolic Extract of Phaleria Macrocarpa's Mesocarp as an Anti-Diabetic Nephropathy Agent in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in Animal Model”, Galih Putro Dewantoro (FK '13) “The Effect Of White Butter on Brain's Malondialdehyde (MDA) Level in Male Wistar Rats (Rattus norvegicus)”, Fitri Rachmawati Putri (FK '13) “The Effect of Shortening to Malonedialdehyde (MDA) Testes on Wistar Male Rats”, and Jamilah Aulia Haikhah (FK '13) “The Effect of Phaleria Macrocarpa's Mesocarp Methanolic Extract and Vitamin E on Sertoli Cells Number in Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus-Induced Rats”. The five teams took part in SICEM 2017 in the field of ePoster Presentation. In SICEM activities, there are 3 fields of presentation that can be followed namely ePoster Presentation, General Oral Presentation and Plenary Lecture.

According to him, SICEM is not a competition event, SICEM is a forum for researchers to exchange experiences, ideas, thoughts and of course publish research results from each participant in various fields of presentation. "We met with various kinds of researchers from around the world such as the USA, Japan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India and many others. Most of them are doctors or doctors, while we are students. But we are sure that this will be a good first step for us to gain more experience.” The first day of SICEM 2017 is the welcoming party, the second and third days are presentations for ePoster presentations, general oral presentations and plenary lectures. At certain hours, we also attended symposium presentations from expert researchers from the field of endocrine and metabolism who made new discoveries.

"In our opinion, this opportunity should be felt by all students, especially those who have the desire and ambition to become a researcher," he said.

In line with Rafik, one of the participants, namely Jamilah Aulia Haikhah (FK '13) added about this 2017 SICEM activity, saying that in this activity there were rewards given by the Korean Endocrine Society (KES) to participants who registered themselves to get a "Travel Grant" .

The Travel Grant is a reward given by KES to participants with selected works as a result of selection from scientific committee SICEM 2017. The Travel Grant is divided into 3 areas namely ePoster Presentation with a total of USD 600, Oral Presentation USD 1000 and Plenary Session USD 13000.

"Alhamdulillah, out of the 5 UII delegations, Rafik Prabowo managed to get a Travel Grant in the field of ePoster Presentation," said Jamilah. Wibowo
