STUNED Scholarship Program, The Netherlands

The Dutch government through the Netherlands Education Center offers scholarships to outstanding young Indonesian professionals to continue postgraduate studies in the Netherlands.

The STUNED scholarship program is aimed at professionals from all over Indonesia who have completed their undergraduate education, especially teaching staff, government staff (central and regional), NGO staff and journalists. The STUNED scholarship program prioritizes gender equality (minimum 1% women) and equitable distribution of development throughout Indonesia. Those who already have a Ph-D (S50) degree are not allowed to join this program.

The STUNED Scholarship covers

1. Total tuition fees;
2. Cost of living (monthly money) in accordance with the standard of living in general;
3. Insurance premiums (travel, health, personal liability insurance);
4. Plane ticket costs that have been determined;
5. Transportation costs while in the Netherlands related to study purposes;
6. Assistance for costs related to study needs, such as books and shipping costs (the amount of payment depends on the period of study);
7. Reimbursement of residence permit fees.

Selectable Study Programs

Those who are interested in applying for the STUNED scholarship can choose postgraduate programs held by higher education institutions in the Netherlands, with a minimum study period of 1,5 months and a maximum of 24 months. Almost all study programs use English as the language of instruction. In principle, the study program chosen must reflect its relevance to Indonesia's development. Almost all study programs can be submitted for electives except literature and language.

English ability

Information regarding the test schedule and samples of the required TOEFL or IELTS results can be obtained on the NEC website.

Motivational exposure

Each applicant is required to submit an essay explaining the relationship between the choice of study program and one of the development sectors and explaining the relationship between their work and the development sector. This essay also explains how the scholarship application is in line with the development plan of the organization in which they work.

Requirements

STUNED scholarship applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Indonesian citizen;
2. Minimum education S1, GPA min 2,5;
3. Experience min 2 years in the relevant field;
4. Have an educational background or field of work that is in accordance with the choice of postgraduate study;
5. Have English proficiency, min TOEFL 550 or IELTS 213;
6. Did not study abroad within the last 2 years;
7. Accepted at a university in the Netherlands for the academic year to be undertaken;
8. Age not more than 40 years for men and 45 years for women.

In addition to the general requirements above, each university determines its own registration requirements. Therefore it is recommended that in the early stages applicants seek information about the registration procedure. Please apply as soon as possible, because applicants must attach an admission letter from the university of choice in the Netherlands in the scholarship application form.

How to register

The first step is to determine in advance the right study program. The next step is to apply to a university to gain acceptance into that course. Registration can be done via e-mail. The registration period for almost all study programs for each academic year opens in January.

The scholarship program is offered annually. Registration closes in April. Announcement of selection acceptance is announced around June. Incomplete forms will not be processed.

Selection Process

The selection board will see that scholarships are awarded in accordance with the objectives set out in the development cooperation agreement between the Indonesian government and the Dutch government. Greater opportunities are given to those who succeed in presenting strong and convincing arguments regarding the relationship between the chosen study program and their work and with development in related sectors, and/or the relationship between the chosen study program and organizational plans in order to increase the capacity and performance of the organization.
