Comparison of the Frequency of Neonatal Asphyxia in Bracht Assisted Delivery

COMPARISON OF THE FREQUENCY OF NEONATORIC ASPHYCIA IN BRACHT DELIVERY ATTENDANCE WITH MANUAL AID IN WONOGIRI HOSPITAL FOR THE PERIOD 01 JANUARY 2003-31 DECEMBER 2006

Background : Perinatal mortality is 13 times higher in breech presentation than perinatal mortality in cephalic presentation. One of the main causes of perinatal death in breech presentation is fetal asphyxia.

Objective :  To find out whether there is a significant difference in the frequency of neonatal asphyxia in Bracht vaginal delivery with manual aid in Wonogiri Hospital

Method :  The study was conducted retrospectively with a historical cohort design. Data were taken from medical records of patients with vaginal delivery in breech presentation by Bracht manual aid who were treated and delivered at RSUD Wonogiri between 01 January 2003 – 31 December 2006.

Results :  Of the 102 research subjects, the results of vaginal delivery both by Bracht and manual aid with a confidence interval of 95% obtained a Risk Ratio (RR) value of 2,614 (95% CI: 1,384-4,936). The results of the analysis based on age showed that the highest number of mothers was between 20-24 years old, namely 34 mothers (33,3%), the highest number of mothers were nullipara (P1), namely 53 mothers (52%) , and the highest birth weight was 2834-3000 grams, namely 55 babies (53,9%).

Conclusion :  Assisted manual delivery has the risk of neonatal asphyxia 2,315 times compared to assisted delivery with Bracht. Breech presentation in this study was more common in nulliparas than in multiparas. The highest number of mothers are mothers aged between 20-24 years. The most weight of babies born is 2834-3000 grams.
