Kaliurang (UII News) – A humanitarian activity as a form of community service as the first step to building a character that cares for and empathizes with society, new students batch 2016 Medical Education Study Program (PSPD) Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) organizes Social Service (Baksos).

This was conveyed by Muhammad Aufa Aulia, as the head of the 2016 class of Social Service which was held on Saturday, 21 Jumadil Awal 1438 H/18 February 2017 in Gunting village, Bantul which is close to the establishment of the Academic Hospital (RSA) Universitas Islam Indonesia.

According to Aufa, we realize the form of this social service activity in the theme Devote Yourself in the Warmth of Sharing. This activity will maximize the role of students as agent of health, agent of change, and agent of social control. this activity God willing held in Gunting Hamlet.

"In the next 2 years, the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia will build a teaching hospital located in Pandak District. We realize that FK UII needs the first step in establishing interaction and introducing itself to the people of Pandak District so that this social service activity can be a way for FK UII to realize this mission. For this reason, we chose Scissors hamlet which is one of the Pandak District areas as the location for the 2016 FK UII Community Service activities," he said.

Aufa further added that Gunting Hamlet itself is one of the areas that has uneven development in Pandak District, both in terms of economy, education, and health. From the survey we conducted, the people of Dusun Gunting have minimal information about health education, such as education about sexually transmitted diseases and the importance of cleaning toilets. In addition, Dusun Gunting also does not have medical personnel or doctors who live there.

"Through this activity we also want to take on the role of medical students in improving public health for the better," said Aufa on behalf of her friends who are still in their second semester. Wibowo[:]
