Kaliurang (UII News) – Concerned about the alarming cases of infectious diseases in Indonesia, the students of the UII Medical Faculty (FK) Clinical Education Study Program held a seminar with the theme "Stop infection protect our nation.”

This was organized by the Chairman of the Seminar Committee, Catur Kurniawan, S.Ked, during the seminar on Sunday, 29 Jumadil Awal 1438 H/26 February 2017 at Tehe Alana Hotel, Jalan Palagan which was attended by 500 doctors from the Indonesian region. .

Described by Chess shunt references from (Sardjono, 2009). that tropical infectious diseases are a group of diseases belonging to communicable diseases that occur in the tropics and subtropics. Tropical infectious diseases are estimated to cause 51% of deaths in the world, mainly due to three main diseases, namely tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and malaria. Meanwhile, 29% the remainder is the death of the world's population caused by other infections

"It is on this basis that we, the prospective doctors of FK UII, are holding this seminar in order to increase understanding of the latest infectious diseases because in Indonesia itself, there are still many tropical disease infections that can be found, including dengue infection, leptospirosis, helminthiasis, filariasis, tuberculosis, and so on. Dengue infection in Indonesia is one of the most important tropical disease problems because Indonesia ranks as the highest country in Southeast Asia with the most cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) from 1968 to 2009," he said.

Catur further added that Indonesia, which is included in the group of developing countries, is currently still facing a number of unresolved problems in several fields, including the health sector. Many health problems that arise can occur due to various factors, both inadequate resources, low socio-economic level of society, and so on. One factor that also influences health problems in Indonesia is the geographical condition of the country. Indonesia's location in the tropics raises its own problems, namely that until now Indonesia is still trying to overcome existing tropical diseases.

Based on this background, the Faculty of Medicine UII 2017 held a seminar entitled "Update of Tropical Medicine in Adult and Pediatric (TROPIC)” which is expected to increase knowledge about the latest treatments for tropical diseases. With the achievement of these goals, we hope that the seminars we organize can contribute to improving the quality of life for people living in the country, said Catur. Wibowo[:]
