Seminar on Violence Against Children (KtA), Department of Child Health, FK UII

Children and youth are one of the nation's most important assets. Healthy and intelligent children and youth will become quality human resources that are very important for the country's development. All parties, both families and communities, have their respective roles to make this happen. But unfortunately, the development of children and adolescents in Indonesia is hampered by the rampant acts of violence today.

Cases of violence against children (KtA) continue to increase in number. Violence against children is all forms of painful treatment, whether physical, sexual or emotional, which results in real harm to the health, survival, growth and development and dignity of the child. Usually, cases of this violence are only revealed after it has been going on for a long time or victims have fallen.

The pandemic period also had an impact on the number of cases of child abuse. The home environment, which should provide a sense of security for children, is often a source of trauma because ironically, most of the perpetrators come from the family or social environment where the victims live. Based on the place of occurrence, 48,7% of cases of sexual violence occurred at home, followed by schools and other public places.

Based on data from the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), the number of children who are victims of sexual violence is increasing every year. In 2019, the number of victims was reported as 6.454, which rose to 6.980 in 2020. In 2021, the number of cases was 8.730. This number may increase this year.

Children and youth must be protected from all possibilities of KtA, especially sexual violence. All parties must take this issue seriously. The active role of parents, teachers and the environment is needed. The IKA FK UII Department also showed its participation by holding a KTA seminar. It is hoped that this seminar can help related parties to better understand and, in the end, be able to prevent and detect early cases of violence against children.
