No. 1109 of 2007 concerning the Implementation of Complementary-Alternative Medicine in Health Service Facilities and Kepmenkes No. 121/menkes/SK/II/2008 concerning Herbal Medical Service Standards.

"It is hoped that government support will increase research on herbal plants, one of which is in overcoming infectious diseases. There is quite a lot of research on herbal plants as antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and as anti-parasitic,” said the doctor in Microbiology FK UII.

It was further added that, if herbal medicines are optimally developed by involving various parties, then they can support national health services. On the other hand, economically it will also improve people's welfare because it is able to provide wide employment opportunities and provide a significant income contribution. The herbal medicine industry as a local culture-based industry has become one of the leading job creation clusters.

In order for herbal medicines to be accepted in their own country, it needs scientific proof through various levels of research. Quality research will provide confidence in its efficacy and safety so that it can be applied in the clinic.

That is what the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medicine, is for Universitas Islam Indonesia held a national seminar on Indonesian herbal medicine. This seminar discussed various matters concerning the potential for herbal drug development and its regulations in Indonesia, the development of antimicrobial research made from herbs, the clinical application of the use of herbal medicines as antimicrobials, as well as the development of herbal medicine-based industries and their marketing strategies. This seminar presents reliable speakers from policy holders, researchers, medical practitioners and industry, with the hope of opening insights so that we can become kings in our own country.

Kaliurang (UII News) – The existence of school children's snacks at this time needs to get more attention. Until now there are still many children's snacks sold at schools, especially by school children's snack food vendors who are unhealthy and have not paid attention to cleanliness. Not infrequently in school children's snacks there are still many dangerous ingredients that are very unfit for consumption. These hazardous materials include excessive food and non-food preservatives, textile dyes and borax. Not even a few of these snacks are contaminated with E.coli bacteria from unhealthy water sources.

The Potential of Halal Market in the World is Increasing

Medicine (UII News) – The potential for the halal market in the world has increased from year to year to reach 1.087 billion dollars and it is predicted that this figure will increase in 2030 to reach 1.8 billion dollars.

Meanwhile, from the existing data, the growth of the Muslim population is increasing rapidly where the largest Muslim population in the world is Indonesia. In the calculation of the Global Islamic Economy in 2014 it reached 1.6 billion Muslim population.

This was conveyed by dr. Sani Rachman Soleman M.Sc along with 2 other UII lecturers namely Rudy Syahputra Ph.D, and dr. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad M.Sc while attending the International Halal Auditor Training in Jakarta organized by ARK Halal Competency Development Specialist in collaboration with the Indonesian Halal Product Foundation (YPHI) and Yarsi University held on 9-10 April 2016 / 1-2 Rajab 1437 H

According to the delegation from UII, it was ironic that Indonesia, with the largest number of Muslims and a very strategic market share for world trade commodities, was ironic when the implementation of the halal assurance system had not been optimized properly.

"Indonesia is still far behind from neighboring Malaysia, which has implemented halal guarantees through JAKIM for decades. The segmentation of halal guarantees is increasingly strategic because it does not only focus on processed food products but has penetrated aspects of service," he said.

Doctor Sani further said that with the JPH Law, it is a momentum for Indonesia to improve the system, improve the quality of human resources so that they can compete on the global stage, especially in certifying halal products. As an implementation of Law No. 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance, it is necessary to strengthen human resources to be able to realize the program.

Later, one of these programs is to establish cooperation and strengthen cross-sectoral halal networks with Asian countries including Europe and Australia. This is very important, in order to strengthen the program, it is necessary to strengthen the halal group network in Indonesia based on the law, one of which is by holding special training for international halal auditors like this.

The purpose of participating in the training event is besides strengthening the human resources of halal auditors, it is also to be able to increase the role and function of Indonesia in its progress in the international world, one of which is Universitas Islam Indonesia through the UII Halal Study Center, HTREND, plays an active role in these activities

The training was attended by several participants from England, Germany, Pakistan, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and of course Indonesia as the host.

"This activity provides enormous benefits in the future HTREND development, especially in network strengthening and human resource development, and this activity will be carried out on an ongoing basis to show Indonesia's existence in the global market," said doctor Sani. Wibowo/Tri
