FK UII ALUMNI PROVIDE PUBLIC HEALTH & COUNSELING SERVICES IN KLATEN AND PRAMBANAN

Alumni of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia (FK UII) who are members of the League of Volunteer & Doctorpreneur ex UNISIA (LEVODOPA) provide free health check-up and treatment services as well as elderly health counseling to community members at the UII KKN Unit 421-425 (Wukirharjo Village, Prambanan, Sleman) and Unit 369 (Kupang Village, Karangdowo, Klaten) on Saturday, 20 and 27 August 2016. This activity was attended by more than 150 community members, most of whom were elderly (elderly).

"LEVODOPA was born in 2010 with the aim of accommodating and coordinating FK UII alumni with a high interest in the social, humanitarian and entrepreneurship fields to benefit many people. One of the activities that we routinely carry out is to help with various community service events such as those held by younger KKN students," explained dr. Dimas Satya Hendarta as chief of LEVODOPA when being interviewed on the sidelines of the event. Apart from dr. Dimas, several alumni who participated included dr. Wahyu Adhika Nugrahadi (2001), dr. Anisa Rachmawati (2006), and dr. Ninda Devita (2008).

At the health service event in Wukirharjo, it was recorded that most of the cases were dominated by chronic and seasonal diseases, such as osteoarthritis, hypertension, and ISPA. "Especially for people with chronic diseases, we also educated them earlier that apart from medication, lifestyle modification is also very important," said dr. Dimas who is also an alumnus of FK UII class of 2003.

Meanwhile, for the health education event held in Kupang Village, Karangdowo, Klaten, the theme raised was "Being a Healthy and Beneficial Elderly". In this counseling the participants were educated on how to start practicing the steps to become healthy elderly, able to prevent various health problems that can threaten, and remain enthusiastic to be able to benefit their families, communities and the environment.

according to dr. Dimas, this theme was chosen because actually being elderly is a necessity, as the Prophet Muhammad said that all diseases have a cure, except for old diseases. “It's just how the elderly can maintain their health as well as possible so they can continue to practice the Prophet's hadith: the best human being is the most beneficial for other human beings. If they have this awareness, God willing, they will continue to be enthusiastic about maintaining their health because they realize that there is still much that can be given to those around them. That is what can prevent depression, dementia, or other health problems, "concluded dr. Dimas. Aryo/Tri
