Arrange Curriculum, IPE Involve FK UII

Kaliurang (UII News) – IPE is interprofessional or interprofessional education consisting of two or more professions in order to learn from, for and about each of these professions in order to improve collaboration and service quality. The goal of IPE is to achieve more equitable, quality and affordable primary health care.

This was conveyed by dr. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad, M.Sc (Wadek FK UII) when he received an assignment from the Dean of FK UII to attend The First Symposium on Interprofessional Education (IPE) with the theme Collaboration Towards Better Health which was held at the Grand Clarion Hotel Makassar on 29-30 October 2014 collaboration between DIKTI and FK UNHAS.

Doctor Udin explained that the purpose of this activity was to share experiences in practicing IPE on their respective campuses and to develop IPE curricula, strategies and learning methods in preclinics, clinics and communities.

"Today, health services are still fragmented or fragmented, one of which is because of ego, so that it seems that one profession is subordinate to another. Ideally all these health workers can collaborate or work together with mutual trust and mutual respect in treating patients. With the number of health workers as many as 13 according to the Health Law, it demands good cooperation in carrying out their respective functions and roles," he said.

Added by doctors who often use white letterheads, in a question, How can each profession respect other professions by prioritizing commitment to serving patients, mutual trust, openness to each other, effective communication, good leadership, good team building strong, good conflict management and humanist advocacy for patients, it is necessary to formulate competencies, educational models and curricula as well as assessments from the academic, clinical and community stages.

"The teaching methods can be role play, reflection, community based interprofessional collaboration (COMIC), joint lectures, interprofessional case based tutorials, and real work lectures - health professions or SUPERCAMP which are attended by students of pharmacy, medicine, dentistry, nutrition, health society, and nursing†, he added.

Through IPE, it is hoped that it will result in a transformation of the health service model from health worker centered to patient centered with the characteristics of patients playing an active role, patients are partners in receiving services, health workers and patients communicate in two directions, health services are prioritized for quality of life, taking into account culture and values patient value.

For follow-up activities, a second symposium will be held on 21-22 October 2015 with the topic "Developing Assessment in IPE".

“Hopefully FK UII can be better at participating in these follow-up activities. Thankfully, FK UII was able to directly compile the IPE curriculum and its assessment system, which is spread out in every block and in every station in the hospital. And it will be even more prestigious that at FK UII there will be a research group on IPE that can be used for presentations or publications in the Center For The Advancement Of Interprofessional Education (CAIPE) forum, he hoped.

Apart from that, FK UII can also become a member of CAIPE by paying 1.600 Euros per year and getting a journal subscription from CAIPE with the condition that there must be clear outputs for the development of FK UII. "Hopefully UII will be interested in developing IPE at UII's FK to advance it into a world-class FK," explained doctor Udin. Wibowo
