planning health costs in the family

HEALTH COST PLANNING IN THE FAMILY

By: Dr. Point Kuntari MPH

NO one wants to get sick. And that health, the price is very expensive. Therefore, if we are still given health until now, we must be grateful for God's favors and gifts. The principle in health, of course, is still the same that preventing disease is far cheaper than treating the disease itself. For that, let's take care of our own health as well as possible. The method…? Lots, for example by exercising regularly, getting enough rest, eating nutritious foods (if you are past 35 years old, it's a good idea to start reducing m foods that contain high cholesterol), eat fruits and vegetables regularly (as antioxidants to prevent heart disease etc.), drink lots of water and always think positively.

However, apart from the various precautions we are trying - there is nothing wrong with making other anticipations if it turns out that we or some of our family members need health care at high costs and are generally unpredictable in the long term, such as the need for tonsillectomy, surgery. hemorrhoids, hernia operations etc. and in general these operations are quite familiar to our society, which more or less require unexpected costs and must be available in a short time. Or also diseases that are unpredictable and transmitted by mosquitoes, air, unhygienic food which also require medical expenses and accommodation.

Therefore, we all need knowledge about good health care financial management methods. Abroad, generally people are already consciously insuring the health of their families. And family doctors who intensively provide health services are directly paid by the health insurance. For families who can not afford, their government also provides health insurance. In our country, health costs are also covered for poor families through the JAMKESMAS/ASKESKIN program. Now it's just a matter of how this program can be disseminated as well as possible by existing devices down to the lowest level (RT). All parties certainly hope that this program can really be enjoyed by people who can't afford it. This means that the government must continue to exercise control over the mechanism for collecting data and implementing this program so that there are no wrong targets so that those who are not eligible (in the classification of able-bodied – but still registered for various reasons, such as siblings with RT administrators, hamlets etc.) actually also receive the program. For the time being, those who cannot afford this health assistance due to lack of information or ignorance end up not being able to enjoy this program.

If people who fall into the classification cannot afford free medical assistance, then the question is – what about the classification of families who are medium (level of ability)…? If we are not included in the group that was covered earlier, then like it or not we are obliged to carry out various financial planning mechanisms if we experience a situation where a member of our family is sick and requires medical expenses. Big or small, medical expenses must of course be managed in such a way as to not interfere with other family programs (education, housing, food and drink expenses, electricity bills, community budgets, donations, etc.).

The most effective way – for families or heads of families who are not insured is to save and set aside a certain percentage of income. However, it does not mean that those who are already covered by the insurance program can spend their money without saving the health budget reserves. Indeed, in various companies and institutions with good management, generally all employees are insured. However, saving for medical expenses in the long term is of course also very important in case you retire or there is a layoff from a company that requires you to seek treatment at your own expense (because there is no insurance from the company anymore).
And the most ideal, saving for family health expenses can be done by making a separate account with other savings or simultaneously participating in private health insurance, of course the premium amount is adjusted to financial conditions. So, when we do have to use the money – there is no feeling of loss, because it is planned for health. If saving for family health expenses has been done, don't forget that there is one health investment that is also very meaningful, namely regular family health checks to find out. Some of our people are not quite familiar with this laboratory check because there is still the notion that health checks are carried out when sick. Even though periodic health checks are very important for early detection of certain diseases so that further treatment can be carried out immediately. But despite all that, it needs to be emphasized again that prevention is more important than treatment.
