Differences in Demonstration and Independent Methods about Mother's Attitudes and Knowledge
Method and Purpose: This study used a true experiment with a randomized two group pre-test post-test design to determine the effect of self-learning method health education using illustrated manuals on mothers' knowledge and attitudes. The population is mothers who have babies and live in Kec. Prembun, Kab. Kebumen. The sample size was 70 people who were divided into two groups, namely: (1) group I, given health education by self-learning methods using health education modules, (2) group II, given health education by lecture and demonstration methods.
Results and Discussion: there were significant differences in knowledge and attitudes between before and after education in group I and group II (results of paired sample t test p value each = 0,000). Health education through lecture and demonstration methods turned out to be more effective than through self-learning with health education modules (the results of independent sample t test p value of knowledge and attitudes each = 0,000). Test the different knowledge and attitudes of the post-test results between each of the characteristics of group II subjects using ANOVA to get the results: (1) in the various age groups there is no difference in knowledge and attitudes because p knowledge = 0,125 and p attitude = 0,795, (2 ) at various levels of subject education there is no difference in knowledge, because p = 0,511, while attitudes (p = 0,545), (3) in sharing the subject's employment status there is no difference, because p
knowledge = 0,395, p attitude = 0,549. Pearson's product moment correlation test
the result is that there is no correlation between income level and level of knowledge and attitude, because p knowledge = 0,540, p attitude = 0,290. Regression test results: there is a relationship between increased attitudes and knowledge, p = 0,377.
Conclusion: Lecture and demonstration methods are more effective than self-learning methods using health education modules, because there are significant differences in increasing knowledge and attitudes between the treatment group I and the treatment group II.
