The Effect of Knowledge about BSE on BSE Behavior

THE INFLUENCE OF KNOWLEDGE ABOUT BREASTFEEDING ON BREAST BEHAVIOR (BREAST SELF EXAMINATION) IN STUDENTS OF THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE UNIVERSITAS ISLAM INDONESIA ARMY 2004
 
Background : One type of cancer that affects many women is breast cancer, breast cancer is a malignant disease in women, in 2003 cancer was a very serious health problem because the number of sufferers increased by about 20% per year. Breast cancer is the fifth leading cause of death from all cancers. Data shows that 18,7% of all cancers that affect women are breast cancer, ranking 2nd after cervical cancer. One effort to reduce the mortality rate for breast cancer is to perform BSE (Breast Self-Examination). Cancer found at an early stage certainly gives a longer life expectancy than when found at an advanced stage. Therefore the participation of health workers in the implementation of BSE is very important.

Destination : Knowing the level of knowledge and behavior of medical faculty students Universitas Islam Indonesia class of 2004 on BSE (Breast Self-Examination).

Method : This research is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design. The population of the study were female students at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia class of 2004 with active status, and totaling 61 people. The data collection process uses a questionnaire and a combination of interview and observation guidelines. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive analysis and to find the influence between the two variables, a regression test was carried out.

Results : The data measured by the regression test showed a value of 2,157 with a probability of 0,035. Because p ≤ 0,05, it can be concluded that there is an effect of knowledge about BSE on BSE behavior in female students of the Faculty of Medicine, UII, class of 2004.

Conclusion : There is an Influence of Knowledge on BSE with BSE Behavior in Medical Faculty female students Universitas Islam Indonesia batch of 2004. The majority of the 2004 batch of UII Faculty of Medicine students had good knowledge of BSE but the majority of respondents' behavior was inappropriate.
