Evidence-Based Medical Education, The Key To A Doctor's Success
As a medical educational institution, UII has tried its best to educate, providing provisions to students from the undergraduate medical education level followed by educating at the clinical education level where success in obtaining a doctor's degree is not only due to the work of the educational institution but also the work of hard, diligent study, dedication, commitment, trust from medical students who have successfully carried out a series of processes to make themselves Muslim doctors with global standards.
Success in obtaining a degree like this is not the end of a struggle in achieving goals but a starting point for developing evidence-based medical science. For this reason, continuous learning is mandatory for doctors. The internet, e-mail, journals, medical updates are menus that cannot be left out for doctors to know, because the internet every day releases the latest developments in the world of medicine from any part of the world, so knowledge, skills and diagnoses as well as evidence-based decision makers can show that the profession of a doctor is a scientific process whose accuracy can be proven in society. New doctors should also continue to communicate with alumni, and must always follow up
Meanwhile Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid, M.Ec as Chancellor of UII in his remarks delivered by Prof. Ir. Sarwidi, MSCE, IPU, Phd said that the number of doctors in Indonesia is currently still not proportional to the number of patients they have to serve. As a result, doctors cannot provide adequate services. Quoting a statement from the Head of IDI that 70 thousand people consist of 50 thousand general practitioners and 20 thousand specialist doctors. This amount is still insufficient. The ideal ratio of general practitioners is 1:2.500 population. Thus, the number of general practitioners available should have reached 80 thousand. That way, currently there is still a shortage of 30 thousand doctors again. If the assumption is that doctors' production figures are between 4.500-5.000 per year, then it is estimated that this ideal composition can be fulfilled in six years.
Universitas Islam Indonesia which on September 3, 2001 established a medical faculty with a competency-based curriculum has shown its identity by succeeding in developing and making breakthroughs in learning methods so that in BAN PT accreditation it succeeded in obtaining a B accreditation score. This shows that only graduates who have competence can participate in improve people's standard of living. For this reason, it is hoped that alumni must always update their knowledge, improve skills and support each other between colleagues. Hopefully this success will further strengthen UII's contribution in participating in the fight for a healthy Indonesia.
