HIV & Aids Response is the Responsibility of All Parties

Monday, May 30 2011, located in the Hall of Bank Bantul Health Office of Bantul Regency in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia held a Workshop on HIV & AIDS Prevention in Bantul Regency. The workshop was held in the context of FK UII's 10th Anniversary activities. This activity was attended by doctors from the Communicable Disease Control Coordinator (P2M) from each health center in Bantul Regency, the Indonesian Red Cross in Bantul Regency, Correctional Institutions, NGOs and the AIDS Commission (KPA).

The remarks and briefing from the Bantul District Health Office were carried out by dr. Bintarto, M.Kes, while from FK UII by the Deputy Dean dr. Point Kuntari, MPH. In his remarks, Dr. Titik said that the problem of HIV & AIDS is not only the responsibility of sufferers or the Health Office, but is everyone's problem. HIV & AIDS cases continue to increase, this is not only experienced in Bantul Regency, but all districts in Indonesia and even the world. The incidence of HIV & AIDS is like an iceberg phenomenon, so the number reported is only a few of the total number of cases. Because of this, the role of all parties is needed, including the Health Office, NGOs, and also the campus.

dr. Abednego Dani N, in his material said that efforts to control HIV & AIDS must still pay attention to aspects of noble human values, respect for the dignity of life and human rights and prevent stigmatization and discrimination. In addition, the government is also obliged to determine control priorities and mobilize sufficient funds to control the HIV & AIDS epidemic.

On this occasion, the results of the evaluation of the HIV & AIDS surveillance system in Bantul Regency were also presented. It was reported that the number of HIV & AIDS in Bantul district increased significantly. Until early 2011, there were 174 people living with HIV and 77 people with AIDS, and ranked 3rd after the Municipalities of Yogyakarta and Sleman. Since September 2010, Bantul Regency has been part of the HIV&AIDS Response Program with the Global Fund. Sub Sub Recipient is the Bantul Health Service; KPA Bantul and Nahdlatul Ulama. And as a concrete step, settings have been made for VCT & ART Site services at Panembahan Senopati Hospital; STI services at the Kretek Health Center and PTRM (Methadone Maintenance Therapy Program) and LASS services at the Banguntapan II Health Center.
