Improving the Advancement of Medical Science Elsevier Publisher has an audience with FK UII Lecturers

Kaliurang (UII News) – In order to increase the progress of science and technology, especially in the field of medicine, Elsevier Publishers has made a breakthrough, especially in encouraging scientific publications in the form of journals and books for lecturers in FK UII.

This was told by the Deputy Dean of FK UII, dr. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad, M.Sc attending an explanation from Publishing Manager Elsevier Southeast Asia, on Wednesday, 11 February 2015 / 21 Raobiul Akhir 1346 H in the auditorium lt. 1 Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia followed by lecturers at FK UII.

Doctor Udin explained that at the event Elsevier Southeast Asia Publishing Manager Mrs. Chee Hooi Ping who had an office in Singapore conveyed that Elsivier was there to reinforce Knowledge with the symbol of an Elm tree vines vines and a grandfather picking grapes. The non Solus writing hanging on the tree means not alone. The meaning of the symbol is that Elsevier's effort is a publishing business like a tree that produces wisdom that is beneficial to humans.

The Deputy Dean of FK UII further explained that during his visit to FK UII Publishing Elsevier wanted to get input from FK UII lecturers. Elsevier also on this occasion specifically asked for the willingness of FK UII lecturers to become reviewers of several medical books published by Elsevier. Apart from that, Elsevier explores suggestions for improving the content and language aspects of medical books so that they are more easily accepted by FK students and lecturers in Indonesia. In her presentation, Mrs Chee Ping explained that 40% of FK students chose books because they were in Indonesian and 60% because the content was relevant to the FK curriculum.

The event was continued with a dialogue between the lecturer and Mrs. Ping to open up opportunities for collaboration in translation and book review which were more up to date, relevant, practical and accompanied by electronic resources such as one of Elsevier's products, namely student consult.
