Dreaming of a Halal Center at UII

As the oldest Islamic university in Indonesia, UII has made many achievements and works, both by its students, lecturers, staff and alumni. This achievement should have an impact on UII's vision and mission as a blessing for the Indonesian people. In order to contribute to the grounding of UII's vision and mission, FK UII was invited to be a speaker at the First Symposium on Global Halal Research held by LPPOM MUI on 23-24 October 2014 at the Jakarta International Expo or the location of the Jakarta Fair in Kemayoran. Indonesia, with a Muslim-majority country, still has to catch up on the issue of guaranteeing halal products, which until now the law is still not in force. progress in regulating halal product guarantees for its Muslim citizens and readiness in the context of religious tourism, one of which is the availability of shari'ah-based hotels with dishes that are guaranteed to be halal. This event presented speakers from various countries such as Malaysia, Japan, the Middle East and Saudi Arabia. In total, presentations from both domestic and overseas reached 35 papers from researchers from various halal centers. In general, the event discussed the identification test for pork and alcohol contaminants as well as the halal guarantee model with a halal supply chain approach where the emphasis was not just on labeling or stamping halal but on guaranteeing that there was no contamination in the manufacturing and supply processes. In this event the FK UII delegation was represented by Dr. SAA who presented his paper entitled Physicians attitude and experience on medical practices Using Halal Medicine. According to Dr. SAA, this research shows the fact at the level of medical practice that only 13 percent of doctors always use halal products and only 20% of patients who ask to be given halal medicines by doctors. In general, doctors believe and think well that the drugs used are guaranteed to be halal, the important thing is that they are free from pork and alcohol contaminants, although they also complain about the difficulty of getting information on halal medicines from the right experts. With so many cases of mixing beef and pork in traditional markets, many halal centers are needed to work fast and develop themselves to become partners of LPPOM MUI in the future. At UII, based on a survey at FK UII, not all snacks and rice boxes for meeting consumption at UII have been ordered from business people who have received halal certification from MUI. The availability of Halal product references is urgent in our environment, both at the household level or at an institution like UII. Moreover, the availability of the Halal Center at UII becomes very important or crucial if it turns out that there is no information about the product being consumed. This of course worries all of us who work at UII. May Allah continue to bless UII with the establishment of a halal center at UII.
