Protecting Families from the Influence of Cigarettes

PROTECTING THE FAMILY FROM THE EFFECTS OF CIGARETTE

SMOKING can cause cancer, heart attacks, impotence and disruption of pregnancy and the fetus... that's the message that we can read clearly on cigarette packs. Unfortunately, this meaningful message has not moved smokers so they decide to stop the habit. A smoker generally stops smoking because he begins to contract various diseases as a result of too much tar and nicotine that has settled in his body.

The plan of several parties to enact regulations regarding smoking rules so as not to harm the people around them, and not smoking (passive smoking) ... deserves to be welcomed as a positive and very good step to protect society, especially the elderly, pregnant women and children from the effects of secondhand smoke. In children, participating in smoking cigarettes as passive smokers can inhibit their growth and reduce their level of intelligence. Therefore, there is only one piece of advice that we can convey to smokers: If you love your family, then reduce the habit of smoking, especially in the midst of a family that opens respiratory access for them to take part in inhaling cigarette smoke directly (at close range) or indirectly. indirect (semi filtration – long distance).
The most effective step to protect families from the effects of cigarette smoke pollution, of course, is to stop smoking. However, if it turns out that this step is considered too heavy, efforts can be made by adjusting the layout of the house so that special smoking areas, such as those we often see at airports (cigarette lounges), are completely sterile from visits by family members who do not smoke, let alone children. children who are at the age of growing important organs of the body, such as the lungs, heart and brain. For example by providing a special room / work space for smoking. Or put the living room as far as possible from the family room, as a precaution if visiting guests smoke. Apart from that, there is nothing wrong with placing brochures and warnings not to smoke at home... complete with facts about the physical harm caused by smoking. Through family-based campaigns like this, we hope that those who are already heavy (active) smokers will be motivated to stop smoking and for friends / other family members who have not smoked to be better protected.
And especially for family members who are still teenagers (and are male), the challenge is indeed enormous considering that social relations are now so open that young adults in school uniforms are no longer afraid or ashamed to smoke in public. Likewise with the sight of a young girl smoking demonstratively in a shopping center, at a discotheque etc... even though the percentage is smaller than that of a teenage boy. One particular point that we must underline together, that association is the main "instructor" that will introduce a teenager to the world of smoking, bearing in mind that at a young age there are no other suitable arguments to explain this phenomenon, such as job demands (stress) and so on. which often happens to adults. only suggestions (perceptions) have been awakened from the start. That is, smoking does not help a person in the process of relaxing his nerves from the pressure of workload). For this reason, parents must be very serious about monitoring their children's social interactions, including providing understanding to their children not to hang out too closely with friends who smoke. In addition, parents also have to learn a lot to recognize the indicators that show symptoms that the child has started smoking.
SMOKING TRADITION IN THE FAMILY
Like father like son, thus a western proverb which is very popular in our society to describe that the profile of parents can be seen clearly in the child. This includes examples of smoking in the family, where the main inspiration will certainly come from the family environment as the closest environment. That is, it is very difficult to expect children from a family where the parents (usually the father) smoke not to join in smoking. Curiosity (curiosity) and the desire to imitate (copied) a child will be very strong when seeing an activity carried out repeatedly (continuously) by their parents. For this reason, the family as one of the educational instruments for children must develop positive traditions.
Parents who are aware of the future of their children must be willing to make sacrifices. And quitting smoking and exemplifying a healthy lifestyle without smoking is one way to build a healthier future for children. And we must start this awareness as early as possible so that children do not have the opportunity to record that their parents had a smoking tradition (in the past) as their reference and excuse later when they were caught starting to taste cigarettes. Let's start the tradition of not smoking from now on before it's too late. Wallahu A'lamu Bishawwab
