Description of Strabismus Occurrence with Refractive Abnormalities

DESCRIPTION OF STRABISMUS INCIDENCE WITH REFRACTION ANALYSIS IN DR. YAP” YOGYAKARTA  (PERIOD 2003-2004)

The eye is one of the human sensory organs that has enormous benefits. One of the disorders that interfere with the function of the eye is strabismus. This strabismus occurs when there is deviation from perfect ocular alignment. These deviations can also occur due to refractive errors which include emmetropia, myopia, hypermetropia and astigmatism.
This study aims to describe the incidence of strabismus with refractive errors. This research is a non-experimental descriptive study conducted on strabismus patients at the DR. YAP” Yogyakarta from 2003 to 2004. Data collection was by recording from medical records.

The number of people with strabismus in the Outpatient VI Eye Hospital "DR. YAP "Yogyakarta on 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2004 were 84 cases, with a total of 31 cases of Esotropia Type Strabismus, 40 cases of Exotropia Type Strabismus and 13 other types of Strabismus cases.

Based on the diagnosis of refractive errors, in Esotropia Type Strabismus, the highest frequency of cases was found in Hypermetropia refractive errors, namely as many as 18 people (58%), while in Exotropia Type Strabismus, the highest case frequency was found in Myopia and Hypermetropia refractive errors with the same number, namely -each as many as 15 people (38%). Based on gender, in Esotropia Type Strabismus, the number of male sufferers was more than the number of female patients, namely 17 people (54,84%) while in Exotropia Type Strabismus, the number of female sufferers was more than the number of male sufferers, namely 22 people (55%). Based on age, in Esotropia Type Strabismus, the highest number of sufferers was in the age group 1-4 years amounting to 10 people (33%) while in Exotropia Type Strabismus, the highest number of sufferers were in the age group 5-14 years amounting to 14 people (34%) .
