Exploring Young Researchers' Ideas, SMART FK UII Holds Intermedisco 2015

Kaliurang (UII News – 08/08) – SMART FK UII continues to build the research spirit of UII FK students. This was proven by the holding of FK UII's internal scientific competition, Intermedisco 2015. This event was held from July 5 to August 8 2015. Even though Intermedisco is a routine event every year, there is a new color to Intermedisco this time. This year Intermedisco was held as a preparation for the 2015 Temilnas, which was held in Makassar this August. Taking the same theme as the 2015 Temilnas theme, namely "Maternal and Child Health" it is hoped that the Intermedisco participants who have passed the National Temilnas will be better prepared to face the competition.
This was conveyed by Amiroh Dewi, a member of SMART FK UII when explaining the Intermdisco 2015 activities in the Dean's Secretariat room on 10 August 2015/ 25 Shawwal 1436 H.
Furthermore, Amiroh explained that the first series of activities was the elimination of participants. The competitions held are: scientific essays, KTI-scientific posters, public posters, and public educational videos. Five participants were selected for each branch of the competition to present their work in front of the jury. The initial plan was that all competitions would be presented simultaneously, but due to several problems, the presentation of the finalists was divided into three sessions. The first session for the presentation of the public poster competition and public educational video was held on 5 July 2015. In this session a jury was presented from students, 2 from UGM students and one from UII students. The second session, held on 3 August 2015, was for the presentation of the branch of the scientific essay competition. The third session, for the presentation of KTI-scientific posters, was held on 9 August 2015. The judges for the second and third sessions were taken from FK UII lecturers. All competition activities are held in the Main Meeting Room of FK UII. Of the five finalists, 3 winners were obtained for each branch.
One of the Intermedisco participants in the KTI-poster competition, Alin (FK UII class of 2014), said that he was very happy to be able to take part in Intermedisco especially since his group was very enthusiastic when preparing for KTI. However, he felt a little disappointed because in the days leading up to the presentation happened miss com with his group, perhaps because of Intermedisco's postponed schedule. Alin hopes that next year there will be more participants and the Intermedisco committee will be even more enthusiastic. Another participant, Rima Nur (2013), when asked about Intermedisco's impressions and messages this time, said, “Exciting, it can add to our insights. It turns out that there are many ideas that have not been revealed. What I think needs to be followed up, not only at Intermedisco." , said Amiroh.
Meanwhile, the Chairperson of Intermedisco 2015, Malombasi Dharmawan (2013) said Intermedisco as a whole ran smoothly. However, there are several main obstacles faced by the committee, such as the difficulty in finding doctors who are willing to be on the jury. Intermedisco's focus on Temilnas led to narrow themes which were considered to be of little interest to students. Even so, all the obstacles were overcome properly, plus there were finalists who passed Intermedisco and managed to qualify for the National Temilnas. When asked about Dharma's hopes for the upcoming Intermedisco, he said,
"In the future Intermedisco will be further developed, not only on an internal scale but on a regional and national scale. Hopefully next year's Intermedisco (committee) will learn more about the problems that occurred at the previous Intermedisco and be used as material for consideration in selecting the jury and choosing the date of the implementation, which was slightly missed at this year's Intermedisco. We hope that there will be more participants, the theme raised will not only refer to the National Empowerment Team, but will be more free. So even if you don't qualify for Temilnas, you can take part in other competitions," said Malombasi. Wibowo/Tri
