FK UII Place to Study International Muslim Medicine

ImageGlobalization has brought a logical consequence that crossing national borders, skills, knowledge and languages are no longer an obstacle. Moreover, Indonesia has become part of the international community where the needs of human resources for companies/institutions no longer rely on indigenous people, but those who have competence can be accepted to work.

In line with the above, FK UII, which in August 2009 will be eight years into its journey as a medical education institution, is increasingly preparing itself to equip prospective doctors not only by providing standard competency skills, but also having its own quality in terms of international language mastery (English). , Arabic, and other required languages), understanding of health problems in various parts of the world, providing medical skills training facilities with international standard equipment, as well as an emphasis on ethical behavior as a doctor, understanding legal procedures for working abroad.

Meanwhile according to dr. Linda Rosita, M.Kes, Sp.PK, FK UII should be able to build a health extension doctor and at the same time an Islamic preacher, because general practitioners who graduate from UII will become an element of primary health care, have a big role in health promotion efforts and also as a health educator. That's why the values in the formation of Muslim doctors must be embedded in the medical education curriculum at UII.

Almost the same view was also expressed by dr. Hj., Erliana Marfianti, M.Sc, Sp.PD who stated that UII as a university with an Islamic spirit should be able to be a soul of difference from other universities. That's why medical education at UII emphasizes holistic medicine in which a doctor views the patient as a unit of body and soul, so his approach must consider both. An approach with an Islamic perspective that must animate the entire treatment process. The Islamic perspective in question is also exploring medicine which is based on the Al-Qur'an, Hadith and all that is based on the Sunnah of the Prophet. For example, the use of natural ingredients for treatment, for example Honey, Habatus Saudah, etc.

No less interesting is the view from dr. H. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad who stated that the majority of patients served in medical practice are Muslims. Unfortunately, only one or two Muslim doctors can provide medical services according to Islamic bioethics. Therefore, it is necessary to equip prospective doctors with the expertise/skills and knowledge of Islamic Biotechnics.
Those are some important things that can be conveyed to the public in the FK UII Coordination Meeting held at the Prof. Public Lecture Building. Sardjito Universitas Islam Indonesia Yogyakarta on 4-6 April 2009 which was attended by all leaders, lecturers and heads of divisions.
