FK UII Oath of 46 New Doctors

The malpractice phenomenon that we often encounter in society is an indication of the inconsistency of a doctor in maintaining professional ethics and moral sensitivity, sensitivity in behaving towards fellow professionals or a sense of responsibility for his profession to society, according to Prof. Dr. Edy Suandi Hamid Mec in his speech at the doctor's oath ceremony for period XII of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia at the Kahar Muzakir Building Jl. Kaliurang Km. 14,5 Sleman Yogyakarta, on Thursday 31 March 2011.
 
The Chancellor of UII, in his remarks also explained that the professionalism of UII-graduated doctors had been tested in the activities of the Medical Assistance Team in dealing with the Merapi Eruption disaster by working directly with victims in the DIY and Central Java regions. This is proof that the intention, alertness and ability in educating students to become doctors who have a holistic understanding of medical science.
 
On the same occasion the Dean of FK-UII, dr. Isnatin Miladiyah M.Kes, explained that 46 new doctors took part in the Doctor's Oath during this period, 33 of whom were the first batch of KBK, namely in 2005 who studied for 3,5 years and 1,5 years for clinical education. This is the first time that FK UII has graduated a doctor with a study period of under 6 years.

The Dean of FK–UII advised that the Doctor's Oath is not the end of the learning process for a doctor, but actually this is a new point for learning to become a real doctor. For this reason, FK-UII will continue to educate qualified new doctor candidates by implementing Quality Assurance for Medical Faculty Higher Education such as ISO 9001: 2008 certification. Steps to improve quality do not only stop at certification, but FK-UII is also trusted by the Director General of Higher Education Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia in 2010, FK-UII received Health Professional Education Quality (HPEQ) grants of IDR 15 billion from the World Bank.

 
Dr. Bambang Suryono Suwono, General Chairperson of IDI DIY also advised, "Actually a doctor must be able to carry out three roles at once. Namely the doctor as agent of treatment, agent of change, and agent of development. Where as agent of treatment a doctor must be able to practice medical science at the highest degree, that is consistent with the contents of the medical oath, and always do it Update medical science. According to him, doctors must also be able to play a role of change mindset in society from traditional society to modern society that is equal to other societies. This is what is referred to as agent of change. Finally, a doctor must also be able to pave the way for people's welfare and this is what is referred to as an agent of development," he concluded.
