Research Ethics Part of Higher Education

Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) is different from other tertiary institutions, we have Catur Darma which consists of Education, Research, Service and Da'wah Islamiah. Thus the research ethics used is research by preaching which leads to a goal, namely putting trust in Allah SWT.

This was conveyed by the Deputy Dean of the UII Faculty of Medicine, dr. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad, M.Sc, in his remarks when opening the Workshop on Ethics in Health Research which was held on Saturday, 27 Shafar 1436 H coinciding with December 20 2014 in the auditorium Lt.1 Faculty of Medicine UII, Jl. Kaliurang Km.14,5 Sleman, Yogyakarta which was attended by all lecturers and education staff.

According to doctor Udin, in connection with preparations for the formation of the Medical Faculty Research Ethics Committee (FK) Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII), then organizing this workshop is very necessary as part of understanding an ethics in conducting research and implementing the UII Chess Darma, thus for lecturers, students when conducting research must be ethical is a must.

"Ethics in conducting research is part of a requirement that must be carried out within the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) by lecturers, students, especially in this study using human subjects and experimental animals, said doctor Udin.

Meanwhile, as the speaker of Introduction to Health Research Ethics, Prof.dr. Mohammad Hakimi, Sp.OG (K), Ph.D as Chair of the Medical and Health Research Commission and the Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University (FK UGM) and Member of the National Health Research Ethics Committee (KNEPK) emphasized that in conducting research what must be considered is attention to subjects (humans and/or experimental animals) must take precedence over the research and the community.

"The research that we do must prioritize the interests of the subject rather than our own research, so that the research can have more benefits than the harm, this of course uses the principle of beneficence/non-maleficence," explained Prof. Judge.

Another speaker, namely Prof.Dr.dr. Sri Sutarni, Sp.S(K) FK-UGM/RSUP Dr.Sardjito Yogyakarta, discussing ethics in clinical trials, emphasized that the ethical principle in clinical trials is to protect every sample that is used as a research subject, then every event that occurs consequences of treatment must be anticipated beforehand.

"The possibility of resigning at any time must be allowed, it is voluntary and the confidentiality of participation in research must be maintained," emphasized Prof. Tarni.

In addition to the two speakers mentioned above, the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII) presented other speakers, namely Prof.dr.
