Effect of Dates Fruit Extract on Increasing Blood Hemoglobin Levels in Vitro

EFFECT OF DATE FRUIT EXTRACT (Phoenix dactylifera) ON INCREASING BLOOD HEMOGLOBIN (Hb) LEVELS IN VITRO IN MALE WHITE RATS

Background : Dates are a special fruit in the hearts of Muslims. The content of various nutrients in dates provides many benefits for the body. One of the benefits provided by dates includes preventing anemia. One of the laboratory signs of anemia is a lack of hemoglobin (Hb) levels. So this research wants to know the effect of date extract on increasing Hb levels.

Destination : This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of giving date palm extract on increasing blood Hb levels in male white rats.

Research methods : This research is an experimental study using 20 mice as research subjects who were divided randomly into 4 groups. The first group was a negative control group that received distilled water, the second group was a positive control group that received ferrous sulfate, the third and fourth groups were groups given 60 and 120 mg/kgBW of dates. This research lasted for 90 days by observing changes in Hb levels in 3 research stages, namely before, 60 and 90 days of treatment.

Results : In stage I and stage II the p value = 0,76; stage I and stage III p=0,61; stage II and stage III p=0,00. The stages that have significant differences are stage II and stage III (p<0,05). This is because in stage III the mice's Hb levels decreased.

Conclusion: Date extract could increase Hb levels on day 60 of the study, but this increase was not statistically significant.
