The Indonesian Association of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (PBBMI) held its 22nd annual seminar entitled “INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR : INDONESIAN SOCIETY FOR BIOCHEMISTRY AND MOLECULAR BIOLOGY” Application Of Biochemistry And Molecular Biology On Drug Discovery and Advanced Diagnostics which was held at Sam Ratulangi University, Manado on 9-10 November 2017.

The world's technological developments encourage developments in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. Science can explain basic concepts to developments in the health sector which are needed at all times. So we need the latest continuous information and new innovations in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. The theme of this international seminar is health-based science and medicine based on biochemistry and molecular biology which also supports the development of diagnosis with CLART and drug discovery through methods docking. Seminar and workshop participants include lecturers, researchers, academics and students who are members of PBBMI from all over Indonesia. This seminar was attended by a lecturer in biochemistry at FK UII, dr. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad, M.Sc and dr. Rizki Fajar Utami, M.Sc. Scheduled oral presentation on Friday 10 November 2017 at Faculty of Medicine Dentistry, Sam Ratulangi University, Manado. dr. Syaefudin Ali Akhmad, M.Sc presented biomarkers in spirituality.

The speakers for this international seminar came from various countries, Prof. Wolfgang Nellen, Prof. Dr. from Germany presented his research on the Ijen Crater Banyuwangi entitled Biodiversity research in Indonesia Chance, problems, some data and some dreams. The microbiota that live in Ijen Crater have enzymes that are resistant to very acidic pH such as those in the stomach. This can be used for drugs that are resistant to stomach acid. Meanwhile, the speaker from Malaysia, Hanafi Damanhuri, Ph.D, presented his research on age-related cognitive decline. The results obtained in this study, the older the rat activity will decrease, the brain weight remains the same but there is a decrease in the hippocampus and increased inflammation and decreased ubiquitination. Another international speaker from the Philippines, Charleen Joyce Usacdin, presented antioxidant research from rice bran which can be used for anticancer.

On the second day of the seminar, the speaker Simab Kanwal, Ph.D from Pakistan presented Cyanobacteria as a potential natural resource for drug development and production of bioactive compounds. Cyanobacteria can be the development of these drugs which are blue green algae. Bimo Ario Tejo Assoc. Prof., Dr. from Malaysia this very young professor explained about peptide inhibitors in the form of short amino acids for internal therapy rheumatoid arthritis and there are many other speakers from Indonesia.

Developments in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology can be applied in the health sector, starting from diagnosis and therapy. The rich potential of biodiversity in Indonesia provides ample opportunities for researchers in the fields of biochemistry and molecular biology. The natural potential in Indonesia that has been bestowed by Allah SWT can be explored again for research on drug development and other developments in the health sector. This research is a form of gratitude and is developed for the benefit of the people.
