Yogyakarta, FK UII – Flow cytometry is a technique used to analyze the types of cells present in a cell population. The use of flowcytometry has grown rapidly over the last 30 years, ranging from a laboratory technique routinely used by pathologists and immunologists for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with cancer to disorders or deficiencies of the immune system (immune-deficiency diseases). Until now flowcytometry has become an important tool in medical development and research.

In order to sharpen the knowledge of lecturers and students about the application of flowcytometry, Faculty of Medicine UII held a BD Mini Symposium "Applications of Flowcytometry in Clinical and Research". This event was held on Thursday 10 Dzulka'idah 1438 H/03 August 2017 starting at 13.00 WIB at the Auditorium of FK UII.

This event was even more interesting with the presence of Muhammad Hasan, S.Si., as the Senior Application Specialist BD Indonesia who was the guest speaker at this event. Along with Bectun Dickinson (BD) Indonesia and Faculty of Medicine UII, it is hoped that this event can improve the skills of the workshop participants with the presence of flowcytometry in the medical world. Besides being very useful for research, this tool also has many other functions. For example, being able to detect early when new cells appear in the body that are unwanted and dangerous, such as cancer.
