Social Service for Lecturers, Alumni, and Students of KKN FK UII After the Merapi Eruption

Even though the natural disaster of the eruption of Mount Merapi has passed, the life of the people around the slopes of Merapi is still far from normal. Various problems of necessities of life, ranging from destroyed housing to health facilities, are still quite an obstacle that is felt by the victims of the aftermath of the Merapi eruption. Moving on from this, students of the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Islam Indonesia (FK UII) who are undergoing real work lectures (KKN) in various units and areas around the slopes of Merapi took the initiative to coordinate the implementation of Social Services (social services) for Free Health Services after the Merapi Eruption in the Gondang I Shelter area, Kepuh Harjo, Sleman and Panggang, Klaten on Sunday, March 20 2011. Apart from KKN FK UII students, lecturers and alumni of FK UII also actively participated in the event, such as dr. Ranita Parjaman, dr. Fanny Anissa, dr. SaniRachman, dr. Yohana Sahara, and dr. Arie Nugroho.

According to Russy Novita, a 2008 KKN FK UII student who was the social service coordinator at Kepuh Harjo, the people who were victims of the Merapi eruption at the Gondang I Shelter were very enthusiastic about participating in the event. They came from the hamlets of Kali Adem and Jambu. "The number of residents seeking treatment here has reached 110 patients and consists of various age groups, from children, adults to the elderly. For cases that are often found, among others, hypertension, arthritis, to ISPA "explained Russy, who is also active as an administrator for the LEM FK UII.
Not much different from Kepuh Harjo, the implementation of social services for free health services in Panggang, Klaten was also filled with residents. The activity, which was coordinated by Puja, a 2006 KKN FK UII student, was attended by 50 patients with various cases, such as hypertension, gastritis, and dermatitis. "Activities like this are very good for FK UII students who incidentally are future doctors. Through events like this, they not only learn to practice their knowledge but also hone their social spirit in helping people in need," said dr. Yohana Sahara, one of the lecturers and alumni of FK UII who participated in the social service.
